Graphic Formats
There are many different
formats under which graphics can be saved. However, if you stick to just
three of them you shouldn't go far wrong.
.tif -
tagged image file
A useful compressed format (takes up less room than a standard file) that
can be used in Microsoft Office documents but NOT in a web page. The image
stays as clear as the original no matter how many times it is saved.
.jpg -
JPEG
Use for photographs on a web page. Highly compressed but gets blurrier
each time it is saved.
.gif -
Graphics Interchange Format
Use for line drawings. Image stays crisp but the format is limited to 256
colours and is generally a larger file than a .jpg file. Gif files may be animated.
